The Choral Arts Society of Davidson (North Carolina) is a community-based vocal ensemble made up of 80 to 100 singers sponsored by the Music Department of Davidson College. CASD meets during the academic year every Tuesday night from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM in the choir room in the Sloan Music Center (323 Concord Road) on the Davidson College Campus. CASD performs four concerts annually, including fall and spring concerts, Holiday Gala, and the annual performance or sing-along of Handel’s Messiah. Each year CASD collaborates with Davidson’s Pro Arte Orchestra (which includes members of the Charlotte Symphony) and with other professional organizations such as the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra. CASD also joins with the Davidson College Choirs to perform an end-of-season major choral/orchestral work. The Duke Family Performance Hall is the primary venue for the Choral Art Society’s performances. This state-of-the-art facility includes seating for over 600 audience members, an electro-pneumatic orchestra pit and surrounding orchestra shell. CAS also performs in the resonant Davidson College Presbyterian Church for a cappella performances or those requiring the use of a pipe organ.
